We are delighted to announce that Simon Wild, West Sussex Wildlife Protection co-founder, has been recognised with the Animal Category award at the 2025 BBC Radio Sussex and Surrey ‘Make a Difference Awards’.
The ceremony took place in September at Lingfield Park Racecourse, celebrating community heroes across Surrey and Sussex. Simon’s work, responding to calls day and night to help animals in distress, was singled out for his unwavering dedication and tireless commitment. Local residents frequently turn to him for help, and his efforts have saved countless creatures — sometimes putting himself at risk in the process. A recent 3 am rescue of a fox even resulted in a trip to A&E.

Simon was both surprised and humbled to be nominated, voted for by the community, and ultimately recognised for the difference he makes to wildlife across the region. This award reflects not only the countless animals he has helped but also his ongoing commitment to compassionate, hands-on rescue work.
We are extremely proud of Simon and grateful to see his extraordinary efforts acknowledged in this way.
